Paws for Paige

Paige had a deep love for dogs, especially her Bernedoodle, Bella, and her Bernese Mountain Dog, Tiana. Bella and “TT” brought constant comfort and joy to Paige, her family, and those around her. They provided unconditional love, eased tears, and became part of countless memories filled with laughter and connection.

In honor of Paige, her love of dogs, and our continued commitment to supporting student-athlete mental health, the Play for Paige 33 Foundation launched Paws for Paige in March 2025.

Paws for Paige begins with dogs being cared for and supported by Barb and Jason, who provide a loving and stable home environment during each dog’s early stages. During this time, dogs are nurtured, socialized, and prepared to be thoughtfully matched with a child, school, or facility. Once matched, each dog begins specialized training to ensure they are equipped to provide meaningful emotional and therapeutic support.

Paws for Paige Impact in 2025

Since launching, Paws for Paige has already made a meaningful impact through several placements and training partnerships.

Magnolia and Blossom, a pair of Bernedoodle littermates, are placed in a school setting in Georgia and are training with Canine Assistants.

Cairo and Sicily, another pair of Bernedoodle littermates, are also placed in a Georgia school community and are training with Canine Assistants.

Lizzie, a Bernedoodle, has been placed with a family in need and is completing her training at home in partnership with Canine Assistants.

Squid, a Bernese Mountain Dog, has been placed with a family and young girl in need and is currently completing Psychiatric Service Dog training with Dog Training Elite Des Moines.

Poppy, a Bernedoodle placed at Boys Town National Research Hospital, is training with Dog Training Elite Omaha to provide comfort and support to patients, families, and staff.

Denali serves as the Paws for Paige Ambassador, helping raise awareness for the role animals can play in mental health support and connection.

Paws for Paige is rooted in the belief that healing and support can take many forms. For some students and families, the presence of a calm, supportive dog can create a sense of safety, encourage conversation, and provide comfort during difficult moments.

Looking ahead, our goal is to continue expanding Paws for Paige by placing at least six therapy or service dogs each year with local children, schools, and pediatric or community-based facilities. Through this program, we aim to increase access to mental health support, strengthen school and community partnerships, and honor Paige’s legacy through care, connection, and compassion.
